A detailed view of the functional-safety activities and requirements of ISO 26262:2018 for automotive E/E systems.

Course Description

This ISO 26262 training gives automotive engineers a working understanding of functional safety for road-vehicle electrical and electronic systems and how to apply the standard across the V-model.

What the ISO 26262 training covers

The course covers the ISO 26262 safety lifecycle, hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA), ASIL determination and decomposition, functional and technical safety requirements, hardware architectural metrics (SPFM, LFM, PMHF) and the software methods required per ASIL, plus the safety case and confirmation measures.

Automotive systems, hardware and software engineers, safety managers and suppliers developing or assessing E/E systems and components to ISO 26262.

Pedagogical Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the applicable organizational provisions (project management, competence management, safety culture).
  • Manage the functional-safety engineering activities of embedded systems, including supplier activities.
  • Monitor compliance status against functional-safety requirements for systems and their hardware and software elements across the whole life cycle.
  • Address the development or integration of Safety Elements out of Context (SEooC) and tool-qualification criteria.

  • Management of functional safety of systems (Part 2): organizational and project safety management.
  • Concept phase (Part 3): Item Definition, Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Functional Safety Concept and Safety Goals.
  • System-level development (Part 4): technical safety requirements and concept (TSR, TSC), hardware/software interface (HSI), candidate architectures (decompositions).
  • Hardware-level development (Part 5): hardware safety requirements (HwSR) and HW life cycle; architecture metrics (SPFM, LFM) and safety-goal violation evaluation (PMHF/EEC).
  • Software-level development (Part 6): software safety requirements (SwSR) and SW life cycle; software architecture requirements; unit verification, integration and embedded-software verification.
  • Post-development phases (Part 7).
  • Safety Elements out of Context – SEooC (Part 10).
